Our next book club selection is Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. We'll meet at the Koeye Cafe in Bella Bella on Sunday, April 10 (7 PM) for a group discussion. But for those of you who just can't wait to share - and for those of you participating from outside Bella Bella/Denny Island -
Sara Gruen was born in Vancouver and studied in Ottawa, though she now lives in the USA. Do you have favourite Canadian authors? Does the writer's nationality matter to you when you choose a book?
Water for Elephants has just been adapted for film and will be released later this month. How do you feel about book-to-movie transitions? Which films do a good job in your opinion?
If the film version already exists, which do you explore first - the book or the movie? Why?
It's rumoured that Gruen wrote the first draft of Water for Elephants as part of NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), an annual event where people attempt to complete an entire novel just in the month of November. Would you ever join NaNoWriMo? What do you wish you could write a novel about?
We'll post next week with more questions to get you excited! If you have questions you want to share with the group before we meet, send them to jess@thistalalh.org and we'll post them for you! Or, you can share them on our Facebook page (just search for Thistalalh Book Club).
